![No. 17. SURVEY ON PROVISIONS. Pursuant to the Order on the other side, We whose Names are hereunto subscribed, have been on board His Majesty’s Ship the and taken a strict and careful Survey of the Provisions complained of, and find as follow, viz. [Here such of the Provisions as are found fit for service are to he specified, also the particular species found defective, and the exact quantity of each sort is to be inserted in words at length, and not in figures ; and against each species is to be set down not only the true nature of the defect, but the particular reason or oc- casion thereof, to the best of the Surveyors' judgments ; and also, when, where, and from whom the said provi- sions were received, the time to which they are war- ranted, (if under warranty,) and whether they are proper or fit for men to eat or drink, or to be kept on board the skip, or not, and how to be disposed of, or whether thrown into the Sea, as being a nuisance ; and in the margin are to be set doivn the marks, num- bers, and contents of each cask, ~] All which provisions we find to be as above specified; and we do also declare that we have made and taken this Survey with such care, attention, and equity, that (if required) we are ready to make oath to the impartiality of our proceedings. In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands, on board the said Ship in , or at sea, [if the case be so, and then the latitude and longitude must be particularly set forth, that the true situation of the Ship at the time of Survey may be known] this j day of IS MEMORANDUM. As all packages of provisions made vp in His Majesty's stores, besides the contents as to species, and quantities, have the place and time, where, and when, they are packed, or made up, cut or marked on them, the whole thereof must be placed in the column for marks, separate from the numbers; and the reason or occasion of the defect must be never omitted, in order that the loss accruing therefrom may be charged to the respective Contractors, if the same shall appear to have proceeded from any failure in their contracts.
