![these strychnine unquestionably comes first, and should be given in the manner prescribed on page 335. The author has witnessed some very striking amelioration in chronic bronchitis when the drug was employed in the manner in- dicated, especially when given with the syrups of the hypcn phosphites and hydriodic acid, half a dracm of each to a dose. When marked dyspnoea exists, the addition of one or two drops of a one-per-cent. solution of nitro-glycerine and five drops of the tincture of strophanthus, every four hours, will increase the efiicacy of the strychnine. Tlie hypodermic in- jection of .silver nitrate, according to the method recom- mended on page 349. has yielded some very excellent results in the hands of the author. (Juinine, red pepper, and arsenic, may be given in combination with strychnine, with good effect, as follows: IJ Strychninas Sulphatis gr. i Thermolis i i Quinina; Sulph ; iss FulV. Capsici gr. x Acid Arsenici gr. |4. M. Ft. Capsular No. xxxii. Sig. One capsule four times a day, The amount of strychnine is to be gradually increased in the above composition. The importance of cod-liver oil is not to be overlooked in the treatment of this disease. If the cough is very annoying.and thebreathing is so shortas to pre- vent the patient from lying down and going to sleep a quar- ter of a grain of morphine is to be administered, hypoder- micallv, at bedtime, and continued as long as it is believed to be necessary to the patient's be.st interests.
