About this work

Description

A fund-raising poster for the Zonnestraal ("Sunbeam") sanatorium for the tuberculous in Hilversum, founded in 1928 by the diamond merchant Jan van Zutphen, originally for tuberculous people working in the diamond industry. The phrase "De sterken voor de zwakken" (the strong for the weak) appears on much of the sanatorium's literature: it is symbolized by the strong man and the weak woman in the present design by Hahn Jr.
