Jaw of the Infant Ourang-Outang. state, are completely frugivorous.’ (Fig. 1.)—Lord Mox- BODDO says; ‘ Though I think that man has, from nature, the capacity of living either by prey or upon the fruits of the earth, it appears to me, that by nature, and in his ori- ginal state, he is a frugivorous animal, and that he only becomes an animal of prey by acquired habit.’—Mr. Thomas Bell observes: ‘ The opinion which I venture to give has not been hastily formed, nor without what ap- pear to me sufficient grounds. It is, I think, not going too far to say, that every fact connected with the human organization goes to prove that man was originally formed a frugivorous animal, and therefore tropical, or nearly so, with regard to his geographical position. This opinion is principally derived from the formation of his teeth and digestive organs, as well as from the character of his skin, and the general structure of his limbs.’ Dr. W. Lambe, after a critical examination of the sub- ject, says, “ man is herbivorous in his structure,” and his conclusion was verified by more than forty years’ vegeta- rian practice. Dr. Sylvester Graham, of America, who with a mind singularly constituted to grasp first principles, devoted forty years of his life to the study and minute investigation of the whole question, with a zeal surpassing that of any other man, confirms and illustrates the views of all the other great authorities above quoted, in his hith- erto unanswered works on lAe /Science of Human Life, and the Philosophy of /Sacred History.
