Or laftly, the whole medicine may have fuffered from the mere effefts of long keeping. 1 rom any of ihefe caules, it is evident, the powers of cicuta may have fuf- fered; and it happens, no doubt, very frequent- ly, that the failure of it ought, in faft, to be at- tributed to one or other of them. The mode of admiraftering Hemlock, is by beginning with a very fmall dole, and augmen- ting it gradually, till the patient begins to ex- perience fome inconvenient effefts in the head and ftomach; at which period it is, that the good effefts, if any can be produced, will be manifeft.
