    of living boro. I can affirn], from personal experience, tliat the hotel prices are half those which I paid at Abbazia, and much less than those at the best-known health resorts. Let it be generally known that Gorizia is a cheap as well as a pleasant place to live in, and it will not long remain either cheap or pleasant. Many of my countrymen, and still more of my countrywomen, are constantly on the look-out for some spot where they can go and economise, and several places have been spoilt by the influx of those who expect to get all the luxuries of existence for a trifling sum. After all, a place where living is as cheap as in Gorizia has its drawbacks, and, as I have hinted, the hotels are rather too Continental in their arrangements to satisfy fastidious English and Americans, who, if they desire home comforts, must pay as dearly for them at Gorizia as at any other place on the European Continent. When the hotels are as fine as those on the Eiviera, on the Rhine, and in Switzerland, the prices will be in keeping, that is, equal to those of London, Paris, and even New York. I Many languages are spoken in Gorizia. The visitor who does not speak Italian or German will regret having taken up his abode there. That curious linguistic compound which so many persons in England
