    PREFACE TO THE FOUETH EDITION. In preparing the Fourth Edition of this Manual OF Matekia Medica, every effort has been made to render it complete as a text-book of the subject on which it treats. The Fourth Edition has been remodelled through- out on the basis of the British Pharmacopoeia of 1864. In this work the medicines of the British Pharma- copoeia w411 be found arranged in natural order, the preparations described at length, and the Formula3 explained. Other Medicines and Preparations, mentioned only in the London Pharmacopoeia of 1851, are separately described and included within brackets. The points of divergence between these two
