The ixifantilc mortality in the thi-ee -vvai-ds, i-eckoxied upon the hix-ths registered during the year, is at the i*ate of 14-3, as against 17-7 jier cent, fox- the ])reeeding yeax-, and 11-2 ]ier cent, for the yeax- 1897. Of the above deaths, 31 oecux-x-ed froxn bronchitis and pneumoxiia, 29 from jnematurity, 21 fx-om diai-x-haui, 16 fi-om marasmus, 17 from convulsions, 9 fi-om atelectasis, and 6 fx-om whooping cough. I owai-ds the close of the year an outbreak of this disease occurred in Heath Hayes, and it was fouxid lU'ces- sai-y in the early pai-t of .lanuary of this 3-ear to postpone the x-e-ojiening of the Heath Jla3-es Schools for three weeks.
