    Electricity, from a Magneto-Electric machine. Chloroform and Ether would be prominent, and as Electricity is a perfect preventive from any bad consequences of an over dose, we should use them freely. As Chloroform acts by overcoming nervous sensibility, and Magnetism by harmonizing and equal- izing nervous action, strengthening nervous power, by then- union we should expect success in these cases. We should apply the machine by placing one pole on the nape of the neck continually, and the other put upon the tongue, throat, diaphragm and spine, and into a foot bath with both feet in— also wet both sponges with salt and water, or vinegar, and put salt in the foot batli, put the machine to act in its highest power. Dr. Donovan of Dublin, relates a case in which he employ- ed Electricity with success. [See Dub. Jour., May 1846 and '47.] Dr. Donovan refers to several cases reported to the Academy of Sciences of Turin, by Sir Tassalli Eandi and Sir Rossi. See also N. Y. Dissector, vol. 2, p. 55. Smee Electro Biol, p. 136. PILES, PROLAPSUS ANI, OR FALLING OF THE BOWELS. The above forms of disease, when they are not a conse- quence of other and protracted chronic diseases, from our own experience, are entirely under the control of Magnetic-Elec- tricity. We have cured some of the most severe cases we ever saw, in a very few days, where the bowel was down bad- lv, and strictured by the spincter of the rectum, and become so excessively tender and sore, from repeated ineffectual attempts to return it by pressure in the ordinary way, that it would create a spasm at once, and after leeches and cold water had failed to relieve. We apply one pole to the lower end of the sacrum, and the other to the perineum, and sometimes directly to the anus under as strong a power as the patient can well bear, then change and put one pole on each side of the rec- tum, being careful that the balls or sponges do not touch each other, and press them hard on the flesh or person, as it can be better borne under a strong power, by pressing it on hard; and by continuing the current for some time the soreness will disappear. We have relieved repeatedly the excessive pain and suffering of these cases in five minutes and less, ami we
