Lettering

The caste that usually make baskets in Madras, Tamil Nadu, South India are the Metha Koran. Though basket-making and mat-making are clean arts, they are genearlly practised by the aboriginal castes whose low social status is due more the fact of their aboriginal background

This series represents the castes usually in a couple with the wares of their trade or at their occupations. They are gouache drawings, some with the addition of gold and oxidised silver
