This I would not allow, and, recognizing that the calculus had passed from the kidney into the bladder, changed my treatment to ex23cl it from the bladder. This plan he followed with- out any return of pain in the back or kidney until the 2nd of March, when, at 2 a.m., he had an attack of very severe j^ain in the bladder, and, after considerable straining, 2Dassed a stone weighing nearly 2J grains, accom- panied by a large clot of blood. When I saw him on the same day he was much more com- fortable ; and, on the 4th of March, had quite recovered, and was able to attend to his busi- ness as usual. On this day I again analyzed t]ie m’ine, and found no indication of the former unhealthy state of the kidneys, which had been caused by the j)ressin’e of the calculus. In this case the jmtient’s blood had for some time been charged with an excess of lithic acid; this had caused indigestion, for which he had taken considerable quantities of alkalies, as soda and jDotash.
