Contemporary calf. A fine set containing all the zoological works (the only other work of the author, “‘ Dendrologia,” on trees, 1s not present). Engraved titlepage to each volume and hundreds of fine woodcuts. This famous and most remarkable work by the great naturalist shows better than any other work the state of the knowledge of zoology and natural history at the end of the 16th century. The only other book comparable with it 1s that of Gesner. The composition of this work took many years and several of the volumes were completed after the author's death from his manuscripts. He employed many artists of reputation to design the beautiful «lustrations—Though single volumes are sometimes met with in commerce, the whole series of the zoological works together is rare. A fine set. Several of the volumes bear the autograph signature of Sir Roger Twysden, the antiquary, and 1658 d@’ESSLING (Prince) Les Livres 4 Figures Venitiens de la Fin du XVe siécle et du Commencement du XVIe. Florence and Paris, 1907-1914 £80 Folio. 4 vols. Vols. 1-3 bound in full brown levant morocco, arms of the Ester- hazy family on sides, Vol. 4 in the original wrappers. One of only 300 copies printed. The most sumptuous bibliographical work on early printed books published.
