ES frontispiece by Wandelaar and 12 folding plates The author, a native of Basel, was a pupil of Jacques Bernouilly and the predecessor of Euler as professor of mathematics at St. Petersburg. This is his chief work dealing with physics and specially the structure and motion of bodies, It also contains the descrip- tion of an improved form of Amonton’s air thermo- meter, which is not affected by changes in the pressure of the air, chapters on the movement of projectiles and on sailing ships, etc. A fine copy, entirely uncut. 591 Herschel (Sir J.)
