Copy 1 Note: Large paper copy from the library of Guillaume de Baillou [1538-1618] with his signature on the t.p., page 4, and on a fly-leaf at the end. This eminent French physician had apparently hoped to publish an annotated edition of the work, and this was his working copy. It contains, on fly-leaves at the beginning and end, verses in Latin and French including an Epistle to the reader, notes on the treatment of syphilis, and two indexes. There are also many marginal notes throughout. These MS. additions are dated in various years from 1589 to 1597. Inserted also is a fine engraved portrait of de Baillou by Jacques Thevart after Jaspar Isaac dated 1635. There are also 6 p. of notes in French concerning de Baillou and Paulmier, probably by Dr. Edmond Fournier, whose book-label has been affixed to the inside of the upper cover.
