    of giving the flavor of common fait, and re- fembles it fo much, that many patients have ta¬ ken this purgative in thefe liquids without per¬ ceiving that they were not flavoured with fea- falt. This quantity of phofphorated foda in half a pint of gruel or beef tea, makes them un- pleafantiy fait, altho’ not naufeous, to mod peo¬ ple. Experience has fnewn that in many cafes, where the ftomach was in fo irritable a ftate that any other purgative fairs would be immediately rejected by vomiting, or occaflon intolerable nau- fea, the patients could retain, with little or no at¬ tending ficknefs, the phofphorated foda given in dilute foliation, as in beef tea, barley water, &c. It muff be remembered, that this fait is very Mnpleafant exhibited with fugar, or in any dif- tilled waters, e. g. mint, peppermint, &c. It is as difagreeable as common fait with any faccha- rine liquids, or diftilled waters. But, like com¬ mon fait, its tafte is agreeable to almoft all pa¬ lates in any infipid, or mucilaginous liquid. The phofporated foda has been found parti¬ cularly acceptable to habits that are naturally eoflive, or rendered fo by opium and other me di cines, for which flare it is very difagreeable to take the purging fairs in life ; and yet, the nature of their diiorders, as in hectic cafes, would not allow
