![Assistant Medical Officers at routine inspections in schools; but a large number was brought by parents of their own initiative for the purpose of having glasses repaired, or because they appreciated the importance in certain types of visual defect of periodical re-examination. Care is taken to secure that, so far as can be judged without any elaborate system of investigation, only those parents who are not in a position to obtain private attention to their children’s eyes are allowed to avail themselves of the facilities provided at the clinic. During the year 446 new cases were examined. Spectacles were prescribed for 288 of these, the remainder being found to be emmetroj ic or cases for wliorn spectacles were of no benefit. 550 children attended for re-examination, and 528 pairs of spectacles (new or replaced ; were supplied. The total cost of all the sj^ectacles which were ordered during the year (including those ordered for secondary school children : was T119 19s. 5d., of which the parents were required to paj^ 1:99 17s. Od. The total sum collected during the year (including arrears from j)revious years) was TlOO 9s. Id. Since October the services of Dr. D. L. Charters, the consultant ophthalmic surgeon on the staff of the ]\Iedical Officer’s Department, have been available in connection with cases of especial difficulty.
