![Cases of confinements attended by medical practitioners.—In 888 cases where doctors were called in to difficult cases of continenient the doctors’ fees were paid by the Corporation under the provisions of the Midwives Act, 1918. Accounts for the full amount of the fees in 58 cases, and of part of the amount in 18 cases, were rendered to patients. Temporarily necessitous cases attended by midwives.—In 228 cases where midwives attended temjiorarily necessitous cases of con- finement tlie juidwives’ fees were jand by the Corjjoration under the provisions of the Maternity and Child W'elfare Act, 1918. Kecovery of fee was made in 2 cases. Birkenhead and Wirral Invalid Children’s Association.—Arrange- ments are made by this Association to send children to convalescent homes, and to provide massage treatment for cases of infantile paralysis, etc. During tlie year 1985, 80 children were sent to con- valescent homes by the Association. St. Faith’s Home for Mothers and Babies.—Here accommodation is provided for unmarried mothers and their children—24 cots for babies and 12 beds for mothers. The number of cases admitted to the Home during the year was as follows: — Expectant mothers 15 Babies 16 Birkenhead Maternity Hospital.—There are 29 beds provided at the hospital, including 3 isolation and 2 labour beds. The number of cases admitted during the year was 496. 4 beds are provided for delicate babies. 29 babies were admitted during the year. At the maternity and child welfare clinic held in connection with the hospital the following attendances were made during the year: — Antenatal clinic : 1st visits 536; revisits 2,421.
