The marking characteristic of the species, however, I have represented as seen in perfectly fresh specimens, since it becomes indistinct only a few hours after death. The eyes are not to be seen, when the head is viewed from above, on account of the overhanging eyebrows (vide. fig. 9). Fig. 4 (pi. 22).—Ventral aspect. (The black line, drawn with the pen, on the lower part of the body, between the abdomen and the anus, and the anal fin is an unnatural representation of the slightly depressed mesial line.)
