You are aware I have a class at the Agricultural College, Sydapet; I teach Botany ‘(all branches of the subject, including economic and horticultural botany). My object in writing to you is to get some help on matters about grafting, ringing, pruning and other means adopted for improving fruit. I should like also to have a brief account of the cultivation of tea, coffee and cinchona, in India, and your views about Liberian Coffee. I would value the information very much for one reason in particular, that is, your thorough knowledge and great experience in these matters. I would like to have specimens of insects known to prove destructive to fruit, leaves, seed and timber in this country. If you have none, please favour me simply with their names and what they are in the habit of destroying, &c. I would be content to have just a few lines about each matter. Please do not undertake the work unless you have time and feel disposed to doit.
