This was a bold step to take, as I was a married man and had two children. - Moreover, I had not the requisite money : but having taken my resolution, I put together what little I had, and, with the assistance given to me by my brother-in-law, the late Mr. Norman Morison, of the firm of Messrs. Morison & Co., I made the venture. Because I was a married man, I was reluctant to resign my appointment; and leave of absence was at first refused me.
