    06 ] nervous filaments is the laft in order of all thoie caufes of Senfation, which we have any idea of. Thus far and no farther our knowledge in thefe matters reaches, limited by the outfide of the feat of Senfation ; what paffes within being meer conjecture. For if a new pofition of medullary particles, which is an immediate and unavoidable effeCt of external preifure, does not difcover it- felf any more than their conftitutional arrange ment ; what account can we with any the leaif degree of modefty pretend to give of all the alterations in the nervous fubftance ftill fubfe- quent to fuch preflure and to change of' place thereby occafioned ; a regular feries of which may, for any thing we know to the contrary, precede the immediate caufe of fenfation.
