Afer- cury together , thus if you mix it with fome Al- kali, and drive it upwards by fre, the Acids, for Silver, muft leave the Bodies they were joyned to before, for to enter into the Alkali, and. this is what happens here, for the Acids finding the Quick-lime very porous, do leave the Afercury, and adhere to.the Quick-lime , fo that this 44er- cury being: difengaged from what held it fixt be- fore, and driven by the fire, comes forth of the Retort in form of Spirit, but the coolnefs.of the Water that isin the Recipient, condenfes it, and refolves it into Qxick-filver.
