![—of the human ova are still practically unknown, although theorized about and guessed at by ten thou- sand writers and investigators. AVe claim, 1st. That the right testicle contains the semen which produces the male, and the left testicle the semen which produces the female. 2d. The right ovary of the female is masculine, while the left is feminine. From which it follows that, 3d. If a man be deprived of the left testicle, he can beget only boys, and if of the right, then girls alone will be the product; and 4th. If a won]an lose her right ovary, by surgical operation or by disease, she can bear girls only, while if the left one be destroyed boys only will be the result. Any variation or departure from these rules, if any be found, we claim further, will be exceptional and anomalous; and will be as far from disproving, or unsettling, well-founded faith in the rule just laid down, as the two cases of double ovariotomy in the hands of Dr. H. R. Storer, of Boston, and the third case of the same in the hands of Professor Edward W. Jenks, of Detroit, Michigan, followed in each by a Kinguineous discharge, rather scanty in amount, but regular, would be from subverting the old idea of such intimate connection between the ovaries and menstruation, as to make the latter inseparable from and dependent upon the former.
