PEACEFUL mass migration during the century between the Napoleonic and the Great Wars has redistributed the foundations of political power. The European race has extended its control over all but a ninth of the habitable land on the earth, and has secured full occupation of North America and Australia. These conquests have been achieved by peaceful penetration on a scale far greater than the migra¬ tions which overwhelmed the ancient Empires. Between 1820 and 1925 thirty-three million people have crossed the Atlantic and settled in the United States.
