![In the course of the, year an opportunity was afforded of Purchase of Lanc] increasing the quantity of Land which had been purchased by the County for the purposes of the Asylum, and the opportunity appeared so favorable to your Committee that they lost no time in laying the subject before the Courts of Quarter Sessions in both divisions of the County, The recommendation was adopted by the Courts, and authority was given at the October Sessions to your Committee to enter into a contract for the purchase. Yonr Committee immediately put themselves in communication with the Secretary of State and the Commis¬ sioners in Lunacy, who approved of the Contract, and all the necessary arrangements have been made for completing the Purchase at the price of £3000 for the Land, and £459 5s, 6d. for the Timber, Your Committee have made applieation to the Exchequer Loan Commissioners for the advance of the money on Mortgage of the County Bates, but they required Interest at the rate of 5 per cent., and your Committee have succeeded in getting the advance at 4J per cent., which they consider reason¬ able, and will apply at the present Sessions for the Mortgage Deeds to be signed. Your Committee by the liberality of Burwood Godlee , oi Esq., J.P., of Lewes, who purchased the Earm in order to give the County the opportunity of purchasing it from him at the same price which he gave for it, have been allowed to take possession and are now in the occupation of the Land, (Signed) EDWABD SMITH BIGG, Chairman of the Committee.
