The medi¬ cines in the above cases were certainly given in much smaller doses than have ever hitherto been prescribed. The beneficial effects, as you witnessed, were unquestionahle. I have, hov^ever, seen similar good effects from the bella¬ donna prepared according to the ho- m.'nopathic pharmacopoeia, in a case of very severe erysipelas of the head and face, under the care of my friend. Dr. Quin. The inflammatory symp¬ toms and local signs disappeared with very great rapidity. Without adopt¬ ing the theory of this medical sect, you ought not to reject its doctrines with¬ out dxie examination and enquiry. We shall continue the emploj.unent of this plan of treatment in erysipelas, so long as we find it as successful as it has been.” 10. BROMIDE OF POTASSIUM. lioduces, in continued large doses, a state of mind exactly analogous to what occurs in a patient affected with epilepsy of long standing (see Bazire’s Account of the action of bromide of potassium, in a Note to his Translation of Trousseau’s Clinical Lectures on Epilepsy). I am not aware that bromide of potassium has ever produced convul¬ sions proper, but bromine itself cer¬ tainly has (see Experiment of Butske in Christison cn Poisons, p, 204).
