About this work
Description
Techniques in breeding germfree experimental mice have led to a medical first, the possibility of delivering a germfree baby by caesarean section. The preparation of the plastic surgical isolator is shown and the caesarian section on an anaethestised expecting woman. The baby is born in the isolator. Once the baby arrives in the ward, still in the isolator, the father can meet the baby albeit via gloves attached to the isolator membrane. The isolator is maintained completely in a germfree state for six days and the baby cared for via the plastic membrane.
