Now if the Difeafe decline,, and his deep begin to ceafe, you muff omit all other Medicine^ and follow thofe thing? onely which ftrengthen the Brain ; which may be very well done by the ufepf that Opiate or Elcdfuary which I prefcribed in the Treatife of the cold Diftempet of the Brain. ' But if you will ufe ftronger than that, x.z]x.i\m. Aqua Apopleclica mentioned. Continue the ufe of Caffor above all things, if the Difeafe continue, giving every Morning three or four Grains of It in the Oxymel of Squills, or fimple Oxymel. Trallianus affirmeth. That many overcome with this Difeafe, have been recovered onely with this Remedy. Outwardly you may ufe fome Chymical Balfoms ^gainft Apoplexies, of which there are divers.' We will onely difcover one of the beff unto you. of the Oyl of Nutmegs by Exprejfion, half an Ounce, Ambergreece, Musk^, and Clvit, of each one Scruple, the Difiilled Oyls of Spike, Amber, Cinnamon, Ro/emary, Cloves, ^ each half a Scruple. With this Balfom touch the Palate every Morning, and drop fome into the Ears, and fnuff fome into the Noff rils. For this purpofe the diftilled Oyls of Nutmegs ufed in the fame manner is much commended. Laftly, We ffiUft obferve. That in the Cure of thefe Difeafes, vv^ muff ufe lefs hoc things, and lofe ‘ more blood. When the Difeafe is caufed of blood; and alfo we muff mix Medicines that purge Cho- lerwith thofe that purge Flegm. They which have been troubledwith any of thefe Difeafes, and are cured, do ufe many times to relapfe and fall iiito-the fame again; which that you may prevent, you muff corredt the cold Diftem- perohhe Braiii,aS before is caught; by which Method you may prevent either Apoplexy, Carus, Lethargie,or Coina,. And if the Brain be very cold aftt^ general Evacuations, you may often ufe Aqua Apoplechica; or thefe Tablets or Lozenges following ; Tikcof Ami ergreece half a Scruple, thedi/HSed Oyl of Annis-feeds. Cinnamon, and Nutmegs, tf-each three drops, Oyl of Cloves one drop, Sugar dijfolved in Orange-flower-sfater, four Ounces : Make thefe into Lozenges, and let him take a Dram or two every Morning. Pills to ftrengthen the Head au'e thus made: Tike of Cukebs,, MaBick,, Nutmegs, Cloves, of each one Dram, Ambergreece half a Dram, of Mteslk fix Grains': PFith juyee of Marjerom make PiUs, and let him take one Scruple at a time tmee in a rteek, at his going to Bed. ■ This Powder is in much ufe, and is much commended : Take of fphite-Amber half an Ounce, of the Powder of the Elebluary calledDAxxhodon Abba- tiS, two Drams, of Peony Roots one Dram and an half: Make a Powder of them, and take a Dram at a-time in any Water for that pijrpofe before every New Moon. It is good to hold Nutmeg in the Mouth, and chew it very often. Sweet Perfumes are to be ufed to the Nofe, efpecially the Apoplcftick Balfom. Ufe Spices with Meat,‘after Meat a digeftive Powder mentioned in the Cure of the coIdDi- ftemperof the Head. If you fear a fleepy Difeafe will ca>me from too much blood, you muff firft take fome away by the Arm, and ufe all means to make the Piles or Hcmorriioid-veins to bleed, which is very good; for which you muff purge with Senna and Rhubarb, and with cooling things. If you fear an Apoplexy from Melancholy, you muff purge Melancholy, and provoke the He¬ morrhoids, and give the Medicines prefcribed for the ftrengthning of the Brain, efpecially that Powder which is made of White-Amber, Diarrhedon, and Peony Roots.
