Now the Cure whidf is to be performed by medicaments mufi be thus ordered. Let him frequently take Ciyfters,which in an Emollient and detevfive Decodfion,fhall have half an ounce of Dia- catholicQn, with a fit portion of Honey and Sugar. Alfo the felf-fame day let him begin with his Clyfters, and the foregoing order of Efe. The day after, the crude and fuperfiuous Hu¬ mors which fluctuate in the Aomach,firft paffages and belly, fhall be purged with this follow¬ ing Medicament. The daies following the veil of the Humors mart be co.icodted and prepared, and that by an Eledtuary rather than by a Syrup or an Apozeme. In imitation of Galen, who in filch Difeafes as thefe, and in the Win¬ ter, gave Pouders rather than Liquors. Takz jhavincs of Ivory pmdeted, Aromaticum Rofatum of each two ferries. Ponder of Trionf antalon,and of the Electuary Latifleam Galeni of each half a dram.white Sugar dijfolved in four ounces of Rofc-water. Make all into Talks or Lozenges, weighing three drams a- pisce. Let him take one in the morning, and one before Suffer fund continue the ufe thereof long, if not interrupted with other Medicines. And in caie fometimes he fhall be forced to drink betwixt meals thereby to quench his third, feeing neither' water nor Pcifan nor Beer is good for him, nothing is more excellent than Oxymel, either made by Ga'ens prescription, or of a decodtion of Patfly and Fennel-roots, and a little Hyflop. After eight daies ufe of this courfe of life, and of thefe preparatives; purge him gently the fecond time with the following Sy¬ rup, which we have thus accomodated tothatpurpofe. Take Roots of Cichory, Sorrel, Grafs, Parjley, Fennel, Capars, Polipody of the OaktyCar- thamus-feeds, Raifins cleanfed of each half an ounce, white Flore-bound, Agrimony ,Cete *aehy Maiden-hair ,Bugkfs, Borrage of each one handfull. Annifeed. Endive, feed of Dodder and Mus-melms of each two drams. The three Cordial flowers of each one, pugil. Make a deco- Clin to fifteen ounces* In the [brained liquor infufe four ounces of Senna, white Agaricf two ounces, white Ginger two fcruples. Choice Cinnamon fioalf an ounce. After a [mail boy ling prefsal .he Liq'ior out. wherein dijfolve fifteen ounces of white Sugar, Make a Syrup perfe lily boy led, adding at the end of boy ling the expreffion of an ounce of choice Rhubarb, only . infufed in Endive-water and White-wine, Let him take one ounce and an half at a time in barley-water. With this fyrup he muft purge every eighth day, augmenting ot dimi rfhing the Dofe as need fhall require. In the intermediate daies, if peradventure his belly {hall be coflive, ’twill be better to move the fame with thefe Pills than a Clyfler. Take the befi Aloes, choice Rhubarb of each two drams. Aromaticum Rofatum powder one ferup ]e : with Syrup of Mints, make all into a [oft Mafs. Let him take two Pills an hour be¬ fore meat. - , After he has been purged the fecond or third time, for the more effe&ual preparation of the reft of the Humors, which are wont to be both more earthy and more ftubborii than ordinary ; fc^fides the Ele&uary and Diet aforefaid, Firft a fomentation will be good, whit h mollifies, tfiofe which will foften, mejt, and make fluid the faid Humors, and by all means pofiible open <fhe obftrudlions of the Bowels, preferving their (Length. Now it fhall be made after this ' manner. Take roots of Marfh-mallows, Cichory, Elicaptpane filiced of each half an ouncev Red-Refes , Balauslins, Agrimony> Mints> Wormwood, ChamomeTflowers, DU, each i ne handfull and an half. Annifeed, Linefeed, and Fenugreek?feed of each half an ounce* Squint nth* C yperns, Calamus Anmaticus of each three drams.
