Gold ba- thing alfo may anfwerthe purpofe, and may be fafely employed^if it appear to be power- ful in ftimulating the fyftem, and be not applied when the extremities are threatened with any pain. For fupporting the tone of the fyftem in genera], when threatened with atonic gout, fome animal food ought to be employed, and the more acefcent vegetables ought to be a- voided. In the fame cafe, fome wine alfo may be necefiary ; but it fhould be in mode- rate quantity, and of the leaft acefcent kinds; and, if every kind of wine fhall be found to increafe the acidity of the ftomach, ardent fpirits and water muft be employed.
