Now, if one could be fure, that upon cutting the fymphyjis of the ojjd puhis^ the bones would feparate, in all cafes, three or four inches, with perfed fafety to the patient; that there would be no cracking, jerking and riving afunder of the pofterior ligamentary con- nedions j that ^he divided parts, hard and foft, fenfible and infenfible, would kindly reunite, and obligingly heal up in fifteen days, (as hap- pened in the experiment of thefow^) it would certainly be right to recommend the middle operation for the ftone in preference to all others.
