![Mortality in Infancy. Fifty-five deaths (30 Males, 25 Females) occurred in children under one year old. Of this number two (l Male, 1 Female) were illegitimate. The infantile death-rate being 110 per 1,000 births, against 66 and 104 per 1,000 births in 1922 and 1921 respectively, the death-rate of illegitimate children being 133 per 1,000 births in 1923 and 154 per 1,000 births in 1922. In England and Wales during 1923 there were 69 deaths under one year per 1,000 births. In Chadderton the chief causes of Infantile Mortality were Premature Birth, Congenital Debility and Malformation (20), Bronchitis (3), Gastro-Enteritis (l), and Pneumonia (l2).
