![With the bulbous-pointed oesoiihageal bou«?ie there was little trouble in 1 ocatinf? the forei«:n substance, just above the cricoid cartila^ro. I'e was ve.ry anxious to avoid an op- eration. On explaining to him the danger of attempting to withdraAV the jdate with forceps he assured me there were no sharp points about it, and that he would much laither take the danger of its removal that way than by an opera- tion. Therefore, I made a careful effort with the curved forceps and in the .second' attemjit removed the iilate with no great dis- tress. No bleeding fol- lowed and he nr.i le a good recovery. KIk. 7. Case X. Mr. C.. a middle-aged man, a ]>atient of Dr. H., of this city, who .saw liim when tlie accident occurred, .swallowed his artificial jdate with two teeth attached, and the doctor vcM-y wi.sely desisted from any great .surgical in- tervention at the time, but watched him somewhat clo.sely, the patient evidently being comfortable. Dr. B. came to my otlice .some three days after the accident a.sking me to go with him to see the cast*, but as I was just on the point of leaving the city I a.sked him to bring the patient to me the next morning. In the meantime he examined the patient's throat carefully to see as to whether there was a foreign substance thei’e or not. In so doing he succeeded in reach- ing the ])late with the curved oesophageal forceps, and re- moved it. The patient had suffered very slight inconven- ience for the three days the foreign substance remained in the oesophagus, but the man had a very hu’ge throat and I presume this accounted for the little difficulty he had in swallowing. Case XL Master W. D., aged a, accidentally swallowed this inner por- tion of a cloth button, and im m e d lately experienced FIk 8.](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b22446795_0012.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
