Sc.\VKX(UN(;.—The house refuse has been deposited on land West of the Park, which originally a stagnant marsh in itself a source of danger as a breeding giound of flies and nioscpiitoes has thereby been reclaimed and filled in up to a fixed level. The contract has lequired six inches of eai th covei. I'iPTiiKiiics.—'I'he epidemics of Scarlet Pever and Diph- theria practically ceased at the end of the tirst quarter, there being only a few isolated cases during the re.st of the year, 'there were two deaths from Dijilitbcria, both cases requiring 'rracheotomy. One died in the Past Sussex Hosiiital, and the other at home. 22 cases of Scarlet Fev(>r ami 12 of Diiihtberia were notified. During the autumn tliere was an outbreak of Whooiiing ('OUgh of a mild tyjie which nei'cssitated the closure of two J'llementary Schools.
