We mall now proceed to confider Religion as a rule of life and manners. In this refpecl its influence is very ex- tenfive and beneficial, even when dif- figured by the wildeft fuperftiticn, as it is able to check and conquer thofe paffions, which reafon and philofophy are too weak to encounter.
