    Marriages. 26. 1,991 marriages were celebrated in 1936 as compared with 1,651 in 1935 ; showing an increase of 340. This is equivalent to a marriage rate (number of persons married to every thousand of population) of 10.0%0 against 8.4 in 1935. Births. 27. The total number of births for the year was 13,867 (6,972 males and 6,895 females) 4,758 of these occurred in the General and 9,109 Indian population. The birth-rate was 34.9 against 33.6%o in 1935.
