For the welfare of these afflicted persons, and for the security ot the public, it is to be hoped that such trans- fer may never be established ; but that the medical and moral treatment of the insane may continue to be directed by the medical practitioner, under the sanction and superin- tendency of the College of Physicians. The concurring opinions of all thinking persons allow insanity to be a disease* and those best acquainted with this disorder are most per¬ suaded of the l'elief to be obtained by a judicious administration of medicine. We find that the investigation of the senses and the operations of the human intellect, which are so interwoven with corporeal disease, that it is impossible to separate them, constitute an important part of medical education.
