Description

Engineering: cross-section of a steam engine designed by Boulton and Watt and used for pumping water in London.

Machinery for enabling the East London Waterworks Company to pump water from the Old Ford on the river Lea to households and businesses in East London and Essex. In 1829 it appointed Thomas Wicksteed as Engineer to the company.
