Lydon, who was appointed Consultant Psychiatrist on a part-time basis in 1948, terminated her ajjpointrnent with the Local Education Authority on the 24th July. The following analysis refers to the cases dealt with by Doctor Lydon; although the period covered is only one of seven months, it reflects the fall in the number of school children being referred for psychiatric investigation. New Cases— Number of children examined 12 Registered as Alaladjusted 11 Not Maladjusted (advice given to parents) 1 Re-examinations— Number of cliildren examined 1 Maladjusted 1 Arrangements were made during the last school term of the year for children referred for a psychiatric opinion to be seen by ])octor Philip Pinkerton, Consultant Psycliiatrist at St. Catlierine’s Hosjiital Annexe. CHILD GUIDANCE TREATMENT Sixteen children were treated at the Notre Dame Child Guidance Clinic, Liverpool, for conditions diagnosed by the Psychiatrist. EDUCATIONALLY SUBNORMAL CHILDREN Ascertainment examinations of children thought to be educationally subnormal were held in schools and at clinics during the year. The approved School Medical Officers made recommendations as follows: — Total number examined 30 Found to be Educationally Subnormal and— Recommended to attend Day Special School 27 Recommended for admission to Independent S23ecial School 1 Recommended to remain at Ordinary School with special coaching 2 In addition 7 re-ascertainments were made of educationally sub- normal children in attendance at ordinary schools, and in all cases no change in the origijial recommendation wc.s made.
