General—the Board have had to iface dilliculties which have arisen during the year owing to the Coal Crisis and also in the matter of the Water Supply. In respect to the Water Supply, a question arose between the Urban Dist rict Council and the Board in regard to future charges. 1 he Council, discovering that their powers did not allow of an increase in the existing charges, applied for a provisional order granting them extended powers. The Board un¬ successfully opposed the application, and if the Council fully exercise their extended powers, it will undoubtedly penalise the funds of the Institution and thereby cripple its usefulness. It is hoped, however, that no such course will be adopted by the Council. Thanks.—The Board desire to express their thanks for the numerous gifts received for the use of the patients, one of the most acceptable being 170 lbs. of wool from several farmers, the manufacture of which into blankets was gener¬ ously undertaken by Mr Harry Leach. The Hon. Medical Staff, the Matron and Nursing Staff have served the insti¬ tution with devotion. The Board desire to express their grateful thanks to them as well as to all supporters who have assisted in carrying on the good work which the Hospital has accomplished.
