![Assisted Admissions to Maternity Homes or Hospitals. During the year 372 applicaiions were received for assisted adnussious to a maternity lioinc or liospital. The County Council accepted responsibility for 217 of these cases, an increase over the previous year of 40. The reasous for need of institutional treatment were :— Actual or anticipated obstetric dithculty Medical complication Housing Toxaemia Abortions For care of feeble infant 103 23 31 44 14 2 217 Treatment:— I (1) Viable pregnancies: Normal delivery Medical treatment (normal delivery) \ Pre-Natal treatment only (returned home) (2) Surgical obstetric treatment: Caesarean Induction Forceps ... Improved Born at home Non-Viable Died Mothers. 199 2 5 6 0 0 5 217 Babies. 153 2 0 0 8 12 44 219 Of the above Somerset women 2 were admitted to emergency maternity units in the County for their confinement. , Dental Scheme for Expectant and Nursing Mothers. This Scheme operates partly through private dental practitioners and partly through dental clinics staffed by officers of the County Council. Private Practitioners’ Cases. Of the 17 denture cases uncompleted at the end of 1940, 10 were satisfactorily fitted and the patients are making ]iro])er use of the dentures. 1 patient attended for extractions only, 1 for fillings only, and the remaining 5 did not attend for further treatment. During 1941, 39 a))plications were received. 16 lull dentures and 6 part dentures were fitted, and in every case a re])ort has been receivi'd from a County Council Medical Officer or Health Visitor that the dentures werf? satisfactory and in use. Two patients attended for extractions only.
