Their sizes are graduated by a scale, of which by far the best, and, indeed, the only accurate one, is the French, represented in fig. 136. The numbers range from 1 to 30, and their increase in size is uniform, being one millimetre in circumference, ]N^o. 3 being equal to FTo. 1, and I^o. 30 equal to ^^o 18, of the English gauge.
