![H.GLIC CLEimSIIJ:^ Tile fleet in regular use over the yeeir comprised four 1 6 - 18 cubic yards capacity rear loaders, and one 10 cubic yard side loader the latter being a new vehicle to replace one of similar type which became a reserve vehiclee IThilst tlie introduction of large capacity rear loader type vehicles in recent years has proved a distinct advantage in economy of haul to tip, the retention of one side loader for use at properties where vehicle access to communal yards is possible, is still considered desirable* The genei’al trend for domestic refuse to change in character, iae® to be less dense but more bully, continues, though not so pronounced in this area as is indie a.ted nationally * The weekly tonnage of refuse removed was on average 490 tons involving tiae emptying of seme 14,700 bins* Disposal of refuse has been controlled tipping* Refuse control at tips has been in good order by the full employment of the Tractor Dozer for the spreading of tipped refuse and the sealing of surfaces and embanlonents with soil* iill available builders, spoil surplus soil from estate development, and road s^7eeping material has been used as tip cover* Tip fires have been kept to the minimum, and the use of insecticides by pressure spraying to tip surfaces has proved effective in preventing any serious fly or other insect infestationo The following tips have been in use during the years- STREET. CTFURGHBRIDG-S It was possible to use this site for a few-months only and tlae partially filled cl'..yhole had to be relinquished in connection vd-th Opencast Mining* REr.T]4Md:)s ifHi;., Hs/im - forer ssv^;age works. The loss of the aforem.entioned site meant more intensive use of this one, particularly for refuse from the Southern part of the area® The problem of flooding due to infiltration water from old sewer outfalls was satisfactorily solved and good tipping progress made* Completion of tipping is estimated to be around Deceraber, 1 964* PROSPZOT VILL.‘j:-E -- l^OD The use of this site continues and will last for several years for refuse from the immediate surrounding area* GRSHST ESi.Td miXi ~ FORl'-SR amJJEL PIT Hois is proving a most useful site for refuse from the Central and Northern parts of the area, and although ref'use from furtlier afield ’idLll no doubt subsequently be routed to this site there is ample room for many years* Circumstances for controlled tipping are ideal* FJRIhER TIP SIT5S The provision of further sites particularly suitable for the Southern part of the area is a matter under consideration^](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b29091111_0041.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
