    DUSTING POWDERS. StmpLE ULcers can often be speedily dried up and cured with what are called Dusting Powders—that is, of course, powders dusted on the parts. If the general health be good, a Dusting Powder may be all that is necessary. A great many substances are used for the purpose—for in- stance, Oxide and Carbonate of Zinc, Camphor, Starch, Pow- dered Cinchona Bark, Fullers’ Earth, Boric Acid, and various preparations of Bismuth. But probably the very best Dust- ing Powder is that mentioned under the head “ Poultices ” (which see). ~ GLYCERINE OF TANNIN. This preparation, being a powerful astringent, is very use- ful for drying up and healing Boiis, ULcers, and ABSCESSES. It should be painted on the sore with a camel-hair brush two or three times a day. If much pain is excited, a bread poul- tice may be applied at night, in order that sleep may not be interfered with. Glycerine of Tannin is a safer remedy than Tincture of . Iodine (which see), and almost, if not quite, as effectual. Nore that, when the blood is much disordered, it is a mis- take to dry up sores very quickly, as fresh ones will then, probably, break out. 7 GOULARD WATER. Applied to tnruamep Borns, Uucers, or AxBscussss, this Water—a famous one—is very cooling and soothing :— Extract of Lead (Liquor Plumbi Acetatis)..... 1.drachm. Distilled Vinegaretissse ee ite aces ete er eee 2 ozs. Proot Spirit Sof-eW me. se phaser weer ees eee % OZ. Water ievpcccetivecivs neat renanabeeen sane teen ceenennesde 1 pint. Mix Paint on or apply on lint two or three times a day. GOUT MIXTURE. Of course, when Borts are caused by Gout, the object must be to get rid of that disease—a by no means easy matter. The following mixture is, however, one of the best for this pur- pose :—— ”
