![BffiBOVEMENT GRANTS: PUBLIC CLEANSING: MISCELLANEOUS DUTIES: unfortunately been adequate, thus again bearing directly on the staffing situation. But in view of the financial climate becoming so much more temperate during the latter months of the year, no doubt this section of the work will receive the urgent consideration of the Council. This will need to be integrated with the new housing estate at Lake Lane, to be commenced early in 1959* In respect of Improvement Grants, on only one occasion during the year has an application been received from the owner of a tenanted dwelling and so it would appear that the Minister* s original aims and hopes will again not be realised. It is pleasing to report that the weekly collection of house and trade refuse, with the usual few exceptions of isolated buildings, has continued satisfactorily, but still placing an extremely heavy burden on the present vehicle operating this otwice. In view of this, and the possibility of the replacement of this vehicle early in the New Year, the trial period in which the time of arrival at premises by the collection team is noted and to be continued. As usual, the occasional conplaints of fire from the controlled tip situated on the outskirts of the Borough still continue to arrive, and even with the help of the police it is impossible, unfortunately, to discover the culprits who start these dangerous conflagrations. Covering material has been made available more frequently this year, thus .making it easier to cover the refuse reasonab]y satisfactorily during most of the year, but difficulties arise during the stammer months.
