    PEEFAOE. This catalogue of books on Dermatology and Syphilis was begun for the compiler's own information, and afterwards was presented to the American Dermatological Association, that its members might enjoy any benefit to be derived from its use. Every one has experienced embarrassment, in ordering from catalogues of second-hand books, to know whether the books offered were new or old editions, as well as to determine what would be a fair price to bid for a given book when sold at auc- tion. It is hoped that the following pages may supply some of the desired information. 'No claim of completenesses made. Indeed, it would be im- possible to make a complete list of books. The compiler appre- ciates the shortcomings of this catalogue and craves indulgent criticism. He is not a bibliographer by profession, but hap- pened to have at command a number of trade catalogues belong- ing to his brother, which the latter kindly placed at his dis- posal. Besides these sources he has drawn information from catalogues of old books and from the references given in the books upon dermatology and syphilis that compose his pro- fessional library. Reprints have been excluded as far as pos- sible, though many have crept in as offered for sale by book dealers. It is intended as a catalogue of books, not of journal articles. New York, July, 1889.
