No text description is available for this image![[ 3° ] root that was ufed on this occafion was gathered in the lafl autumn and was well dried. All its ufelefs parts were re¬ moved, and the remainder was carefully powdered. This powder was divided into feveral portions, each of three drams. The panacea mercurii was mercurius dulcis, feven times fublimed. The refin of fcammony had been prepared the day before, by evaporating even to drynefs a ftrong tincture ofAIeppo fcammony, made with fpirit of wine. This refin when viewed in the mafswas of a blackifh colour, but when feparated into thin laminae be¬ came tranfparent and of the colour of hyacinth; being powdered, it appeared of a greenifh white. We began this pre¬ paration by rubbing the fcammony in a glafs mortar, and then adding the mercurius dulcis and gamboge, till the whole was reduced to a very fine powder. It was then made into the form of an electuary by a fufficient quantity (from 48 to 60 grains) of the conferve of hyacinth.
