We fee that feveral who have Places oppofed this Scheme. This (hews that private Opinion fometimes gets the better of a Place, as Refentment fome- times does of Opinion and Reafon. Many of our angry Men had Places once. Did thefe Places influence them then ? If not, why may not others be as horveft as they ? I can likewife allure your Lordfhip of what you will ealily conceive and believe, that many oppofed the Excife, though they thoroughly approved it, fome from Engagement to Party, fome out of Refentment to Minifters, and feveral were apprehenlive of popular Commotions, and the Confequences of fuch.
