    a person must begin with a high temperature, in order to avoid a sensation of chilhness, it were ad- visable to diminish by degrees the temperature of the bath. In this manner, after taking from 20 to 24 batlis, the temperature can be lowered from 4 to 6 degrees. The length of time that a person should remain in the bath depends in Hke manner on his individua- lity and on the nature of his complaint. In general, it may be asserted that it should not be less than 20 or more than 45 minutes. In exceptional cases, it may appead arvisable to prolong it somewhat more. The number of baths to be taken depends upon their affect upon the individual, and according to this they may vary from 12 to 30 or more. Taking more than one bath daily, so as to abridge the period of the cure, without losing the desired number of baths, is not permitted, and as a general rule, it were better to take fewer baths than in such a manner to attain the prescribed number. Persons inclined to congestion toward the heady and chest, but in whose case other symptoms indi- cate the use of saUne baths, would do well not to sit too deeply in the bath, in order that the menaced parts may from time to time be bathed with a sponge dipped in cold water.
