Chairman and Members of the Mold Urban District Councih As Dr. Nelis resigned her appointment as Medical Officer of Health for the Urban District from 28th Feb,, 1949, after 23 years of loyal and efficient service it becomes my duty as her successor to present the report on the work of the Public Health Depart- ment for 1948. I therefore have the honour to present this report foT the year ending 31st December, 1948. I should like to express my sincere thanks to Mr. G. Horn for his assistance in preparing this report. URBAN DISTRICT OF MOLD. SECTION A. STATISTICS AND SOCL^L CONDITIONS OF THE AREA. Area—No change of boundary having occurred, the area of the Urban District remains at 1,160 statutory acres. Population—The population of the Urban District estimated at mid-year, 1948, by the Registrar-General was 6,270. The corresponding figure for the year 1947 was 6,202. Inhabited Houses—At the end of the year there were 1,739 inhabited houses. The average number of persons per house was therefore 3.61. The population density of the area was 5.347 persons per statu- tory acre. Financial Conditions—The product of a penny rate was £142. The rateable value was £37,002. Social Conditions—There is no important change to report. Vital Statistics—The vital statistics are presented in tabular form. For purposes of comparison, I have given (where appro- priate) the corresponding figures for the previous year. Where possible, I have also given the rates for England and Wales as a whole.
